Our work is guided by a set of ethical principles which we co-developed together:
Environmental justice:
to create a just and sustainable world by ensuring our activities contribute to social justice and address the climate and biodiversity crisis.
Inclusion, equality, participation:
to respect and actively engage with the multiple perspectives and knowledges through which people see the world in a participatory and accessible way;
to be mindful of the unequal power relations between ourselves and the people we work with, while championing the interests of the most marginalised voices within a project;
to appreciate the importance of the contexts in which we work;
to be aware of the potential of language to reinforce injustice and being committed to carefully reflecting on the words, language and communication tools we use.
Commitment:
to build long-term partnerships with communities and external partners, developing strong interpersonal relationships within our Collective.
Transparency:
to be honest and transparent about the individual and collective motivations for our work and for the whole Cobra Collective.
Adaptive learning:
to be reflexive and adaptable, committed to constantly learning from our work, acknowledging difficulties, and assessing our impacts, especially paying attention to unintended consequences.
Fairness:
to promote an equitable and fair distribution and allocation of resources between those who we work with and Cobra Collective members.
Care:
to promote the physical and mental wellbeing of Cobra Collective members and those who we work with, taking into account physical and mental risks and workloads in the short-term and long-term.
