This project will co-develop a place-based educational programme with Indigenous communities in the Rupununi Wetlands to strengthen spatial thinking, ecological literacy, and Indigenous-led stewardship. Using participatory mapping, local ecological knowledge, oral histories, and accessible geospatial tools, the project will help communities understand the relationships between wetlands, biodiversity, livelihoods, culture, and planned infrastructure change. It will produce learning materials, a practical guide, and outputs that support Village Sustainability Plans and wider community advocacy.
The project will run from April 2026 to March 2028.
